I realized I am far behind on the technology available for classrooms. I learned more about flipping classrooms, a variety of Web 2.0 tools, Google docs, and Google drive. I found a large variety of resources to use in my classroom and as an administrator. All of the newly acquired information is a little overwhelming right now. I plan on implementing at least one of the new things that I learned by the end of school.

I have over half of my hours completed but I’m behind on documenting. I will need to use Spring Break to catch up on my documentation. I realize that I have too much going on with my current job assignment, keeping up with my family and all of their activities, my college work, and my internship activities. I love every minute of it but struggling to keep up at times.

  

Action Research:

I want to learn what the students know about choosing classes that interest them or are on their career path. I would like a list of the CTE choices available for all teachers, counselors, administrators, and students along with their parents. The survey will be designed so I can determine our strengths and weaknesses of the current system. We can build on our strengths and develop a plan to improve our weaknesses.

Participation rate for completing the surveys was at 95%.

I have sent out a survey and determined 60% of the students are unaware of what CTE courses or available ones to them. The other 40% are aware of some of the classes but did not realize all of them. Normally, if they were Ag people then they were aware of Ag CTE classes only. If they were computer people, then they were aware of the computer CTE courses only. Our teachers are unaware of all the possibilities that our students have. I am still working on compiling a list of possible CTE classes that our students would like to have. I have not been able to meet with the CTE coordinator since the surveys have been returned to finish compiling all of the data.  

Web conference reflections

January 17^th – read the chat

I realized that I needed to join a group to complete the next few assignments. I copied several email addresses and sent email requesting a group. Other people were also having difficulties navigating to a website. I was able to find the correct website address.  

January 20^th-read the chat and listened to recording

Week 2 assignment was clarified. I understand more of what is needed for the group document and personal document. I received more email addresses to contact potential group members. I learned of a Lamar study group on facebook.  When we conduct the survey, we need to reflect on the building survey.

Some people were talking about taking the ILD course. There was discussion about the LCE exam. To access 2.0 webtools on Livebinders, you just click on different binders. Part one of assignment is personal google doc and part two is the team google doc.

Project Based Learning

Huh? I Don’t Understand You… Students will create a class dictionary that includes “new” words, colloquialisms, slang, idioms, IM and texting lingo, and other language in current use and provide the etymology, pronunciation, part of speech, connotation, and use of the word in a sentence for each entry. After compiling the lexicon, each student will compose an essay that explores how to communicate effectively in our classroom and various out-of-school settings.	Use knowledge of the history, cultural diversity, politics, and effects of language to comprehend and elaborate on the meaning of texts, to expand vocabulary, and to draw connections to self and the real world.	9 and 10 ELAR
Waiting to Inhale Students explore the past and present influence of tobacco on social, political, and economic life in the United States and around the world and its impact on individual and public health. Mini-Project:Pocket English *One day, students began brainstorming on recurrent situations when they go to various places (bank, grocery store, hospital, beauty salon, Post Office) in which English phrases were needed. *Under each heading, learners came up with specific examples of situations they might encounter. They wanted to learn how to properly ask questions or make remarks in these specific situations. *Learners then decided they would like to take this information with them when they were out and about. Also, they wanted the information to fit into a pocket or handbag. Thus, came the creation of a phrase booklet of easily accessible, useful sentences with English pronunciation, which the students called "Pocket English."	Making use of the information students already know, allowing them to experience success in areas where they had previously lacked confidence, giving them a voice outside the classroom, and giving learning a meaningful context. Week 5 Conference Reflection

I watched the recorded version of the conference. Dr. Borel had a Power Point to give highlights of her conference. She wants to make sure that we are looking at the updated forms on the departmental website. We can use other forms that we already started with but all new information needs to be included on the forms of our choice. The PISE does not have to be signed and can be a self-assessment. There are sample vitas in our leadership book on pages 125-134. There is not a particular form to use for the professional growth plan. We need to search the internet and find one that we like the best. The entire vita has to be copied and pasted into the Word document for assignment 5.

Meeting with mentor

I met with my mentor today and he agreed with my action research plan the way it is. Pleasae see the last posted action plan and make comments of any suggestions that you might have.

Reflections this week

I realized that I need to write my comments in people's blogs a little different. I need to ask questions or tell them specific things about thier postings. This assignment proved that. I have just been writing nice things and not asking questions or really giving them anything to reflect on.
